Terms of use
Use the calculators freely, for anything, including at work and commercially. Embed the widget if you keep the attribution. Do not scrape the site, attack it, or pass it off as your own. The results are arithmetic on figures you supplied, offered without warranty — check anything that money or a legal right depends on. Dutch law applies.
These terms govern your use of hourscalculatoronline.com, including all calculators, guides and the embeddable widget. beFortunate — a company based in the Netherlands that builds focused, practical online tools — is the operator. By using the site you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, please do not use it.
1. Using the site
The site is free. There is no paywall, no premium tier, no subscription and no registration. You do not need an account, and none exists — there is no login, no profile and no stored history on our side.
You may use the calculators for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial — your own hours, a timesheet for your employer, checking a payslip, billing a client, running payroll, teaching a class — with no licence to request and no attribution required. Printing a result or exporting a CSV for your own records is equally fine.
We provide the site as a free service and may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. Pages may be added, revised or removed, and a calculator's behaviour may change as defects are fixed. We do not guarantee that any tool or address remains available indefinitely.
2. Acceptable use
Use the site in a way that does not interfere with it or with other people's use of it. Specifically, you agree not to:
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting infrastructure or any connected system;
- probe or scan the site for vulnerabilities with the intention of exploiting them, or circumvent any security measure;
- interfere with the site's availability, including through denial-of-service attacks or automated request floods;
- scrape, crawl or systematically download the content to republish it, in whole or in substantial part;
- copy the calculators or guides and present them as your own work, or republish them under another name;
- remove, obscure or alter any attribution, copyright notice or link we have included;
- use the site to break the law, infringe someone's rights, or deceive anyone about hours worked or pay owed.
Ordinary search engine indexing is welcome and is not covered by the scraping restriction. If you want a copy of the content for a legitimate purpose, ask us through the contact page rather than crawling the site.
Responsible security disclosure is welcome. If you believe you have found a security problem, email us before publishing. We will not pursue anyone who reports a genuine issue in good faith.
3. The embeddable widget
An ad-free version of the hours calculator is published at /embed/ for embedding in other websites. It is the only route on this site that may be placed in a frame; framing any other page is blocked by our security headers and is not permitted.
You may embed the widget on a public website, an intranet or an HR portal, free of charge, on these conditions:
- embed it as a plain iframe pointing at our address, without copying the code to your own server;
- keep the attribution link to hourscalculatoronline.com visible near the widget;
- do not modify its appearance or behaviour, including by overlaying or hiding parts of it;
- do not present the calculator as your own product, or imply that we endorse or are affiliated with your site;
- do not embed it on a site that is unlawful, deceptive, or built primarily to host advertising around borrowed content;
- do not insert advertising or tracking code into the widget in a way that appears to come from us.
We may ask you to remove the embed if these conditions are not met, and we may change or withdraw the widget. Because it loads from our servers, a change reaches every embed at once — which is how bug fixes arrive. For white-labelling, a self-hosted copy or bundling into a commercial product, write to us first.
4. Intellectual property
The design, text, guides, source code and overall presentation of this site are owned by beFortunate and protected by copyright. The name Hours Calculator Online and the site's branding are ours.
The formulas themselves are not. Converting minutes to decimal hours, adding 24 hours to an overnight shift and splitting a week at a threshold are ordinary arithmetic that nobody owns, and our how it works page documents all of it openly. What is protected is our particular expression: the wording of the guides, the code as written, and the design.
You may quote short extracts with a clear credit and a link to the page quoted. The results you generate are yours — produced from figures you supplied, and we claim nothing in them. Republishing whole pages or guides requires our written permission.
5. Accuracy, and the limits of it
We take the arithmetic seriously. The calculation code is a module of pure functions covered by 50 automated unit tests that run on every change, all times are handled as whole minutes to avoid rounding drift, and every rule is documented publicly. Our about page describes that method.
That is a statement of care, not a warranty. The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every browser.
The calculators perform arithmetic on the figures you enter and are not legal, payroll, tax or employment advice. The disclaimer sets out what they do and do not account for, and forms part of these terms. You are responsible for checking any result that a payment or a legal right depends on.
6. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, beFortunate is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or the widget. That includes underpaid or overpaid wages, incorrect invoices, disputes with an employer or client, regulatory penalties, lost profits, lost data and any indirect or consequential loss.
Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, it is limited to the greatest extent that law permits. Since the site is supplied free of charge, no amount has been paid to us in respect of it.
Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Consumers keep their mandatory statutory rights.
7. Advertising and third-party links
The site is funded by advertising through Google AdSense. We do not choose, review or endorse the individual advertisements shown, and we are not responsible for any advertiser's products, services or content. Any dealing between you and an advertiser is between you and them.
Our guides sometimes link to external sources such as government or regulatory sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or availability. How advertising data is handled is described in our privacy policy and cookie policy.
8. Privacy
Nothing you type into a calculator is transmitted to us: the site is static files with no backend. The privacy policy explains the local storage used, the third party involved, and your rights. It forms part of these terms.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes. The current version is always the one on this page; these terms were last reviewed 1 November 2026. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
10. Governing law and contact
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of the Netherlands, and the courts of the Netherlands have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of your own country's law. If any clause is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force.
Questions about these terms go to [email protected]. Contact is by email only; there is no telephone line and no postal enquiry service, though a postal address is available on request for legal correspondence.
